Heiligenblut

My family (three %26#39;kids%26#39; over 30 yrs old and 68yr old mum) is planning a trip to Austria for next Christmas. We are interested in Heiligenblut as a possibility. Has anyone stayed there? We are looking for a place that has snow and lots of atmosphere/charm/Christmas feel.

In particular thoughts on these hotels would be appreciated:

Hotel Glocknerhof

Hotel Larchenhof

Hotel kartnerhof

and hotel senger

Thanks!

Heiligenblut is a lovely small town/village in the mountains. They have a great ski area, so especially at Christmas time it will be lovely and very charming.

All of the hotels you mentioned are nice - I haven`t stayed at any of them, but I know the Senger family, and they will make you very welcome.

Have a great time

Thanks Taf for your reply.

If you, or anyone else reading this have any thoughts on the downside of Heiligenblut I%26#39;d appreciate hearing them...we%26#39;re trying to choose a place to spend Christmas (in Austria, in the mountains) and don%26#39;t know anything really about the pros and cons of Heiligenblut...

Thanks!

Christmas will definately be magical in Heiligenblut. The skiing is good there, and there a nice hotels and a village with souvenier shops and sports shops.

But are you aware of its location? It is quite out of the way, about 3 hrs drive in winter from Salzburg airport, or 2 hrs from Klagenfurt, and there are no other bigger towns nearby, just other small but beautiful villages.

It depends on what you`re looking for. Maybe you should consider staying in another bigger ski area, such as Gastein or Zell am See and taking a day trip to Heiligenblut if you particularly wanted to see it for some reason. Both areas menioned have good road and train links, fanatstic ski areas and are both in the Alps about 1 hr from Heiligenblut. Gasteins website is www.gastein.com and try a search for Zell am See for more info.

Christmas gets booked up very quickly, so I would recommend a fairly quick decision.

Good Luck!

Did you end up going to Heligenblut? We%26#39;re planning a one night stop there in September because I%26#39;ve always ben intrigued by it....will be staying at Hotel Senger - did you see it by any chance? Would appreciate your input. Thanks!

My wife and I just spent a night at Heilingenblut in May and fell in love with the area. We stayed at Pension Edelweiss managed by a wonderful couple, Christian and Barbara. The legend of how Heilingenblut got its name is interesting and the beautiful little church is a photographers delight.

Sounds like you have confirmed your reservations but if not I can highly recommend Pension Edelweiss which is situated below the town across the stream. If interested I can post their email contact address.

Hi,

We stayed in Heiligenblut last October. Beautiful village in a gorgeous setting. We stayed at Pension Ederhof just outside of town and our room came with a balcony that had a stunning view of the Grossglockner. Frau Lackner (owner) served us coffe on her patio, which had a fantastic view of the mountains and the valley below, when we arrived.

To anser Travelpro%26#39;s question - we stayed in Hotel Senger and absolutely loved it. We were pampered beyond belief and the food was wonderful. Outstanding views and easy, beautiful short walk into town.

I stayed in The Larchenhof last New Year. Really nice hotel. Beautifull food! The location is about 150 Metres from the lift station and so is just far enough away to be quiet but still close enough that one can walk to the lift or, snow permitting, ski to the door. The rooms are large and very comfortable without being luxurious and hve everything one would want on a skiing holiday.

I liked Heiligenblut a lot. The scenery is fantastic and people are helpfull and friendly..

Hello,

Is Heiligenblut in mid-May 09 covered with some snow?

Or is it only the mountain backdrop that is snow capped?

Would the shops be closed in May?

We thought of going to Franz-josef-hohe and thus from heiligenblut we could catch a bus up.

And for all who shared their accomodation - all have very good feedback! Can you please let me know how much you paid for a double (2 pax) (here in open forum or private message me)

Their email contact would be useful too.

Thanks

I am not a local of that region, but I am sure to know that there is no snow in May. The higher located areas will still be coverd by snow, but down in the valley you may expect moderate temperatures around 20°C (cooler during nights) which is far too much for snow.
