Budapest - Vienna - Budapest by train question

My husband and I will be on vacation in Hungary and Austria at mid April. We are flying to Budapest, stay there for 4 days, then go to Vienna for another 4 days and finally to Salzburg for 2 days by car. Our flight back is from Budapest so at the end of the day we need to return there.

I know that there is 29 EURO ticket that includes Budapest-Vienna-Budapest + Vienna public transport ticket for 4 days. The problem is that you have to return to Budapest within 4 days while we need 6.

I%26#39;ve checked OEBB site and found a ticket from Vienna to Budapest for 19 EURO. So I%26#39;m thinking about purchasing ticket for 29 EURO to go to Vienna and use public transport there and buy 19 EURO ticket to come back to Budapest. 48 EURO alltogether.

I wanted to know how much does a regular ticket (that I can use for return within a week and that doesn%26#39;t include vienna transport) for round trip Budapest-Vienna-Budapest cost? Will it be cheaper to buy it and separately purchase ticket for Vienna transport?

Thanks,

Liya

As your journey originates in Hungary, I would contact the Hungarian Railway Operator for at least the Budapest%26gt;Wien part.

Why don%26#39;t you consider purchasing a regular ticket covering Budapest-Salzburg-Budapest?

I tried MAV site but they don%26#39;t show prices for international trains, only prices within the hungary.

We founfd nifo about Budapest - Salzburg direction in the web and it appeared very expensive so we decided to rent a car when going to Salzburg. It will also allow us to see Hallstadt and some other places in that part of Austria.

As to Budapest - Vienna direction there is a lot of info about 29 EURO ticket for 4 days with public transport but I can%26#39;t find info about other tikets that exist.

Well, if you intend to visit more remote places like Hallstatt, then a car is definitely recommendable.

The regular fare from Vienna to Budapest is 34.20€, but the fare for Budapest to Vienna is set by MAV (although there won%26#39;t be a mentionable difference). I would ask that in the Hungary forum if you haven%26#39;t done yet.

Hallstatt seems to be one the most beautiful places I%26#39;ve ever seen (at least on prictures) so renting a car at this point of our trip wasn%26#39;t a question.

I made a post on Hungary forum but haven%26#39;t got an answer yet.
