While in Salzburg last week we visited Liechtensteinklamm. This is a spectacular gorge with a large waterfall. Here is a good site to give you details: liechtensteinklamm.at/english/wasserfall.htm…
We drove there and it took less than an hour from Salzburg. We drove down the A10 autobahn, exiting at Bischofshofen and heading for St Johann in Pongau. Liechtensteinklamm is clearly signposted just beyond St Johann and is almost straight off the main road. There are several car parks, presumably the nearest one fills up first but we were able to park there easily. We went mid weeks and it was quieter.
There are two restaurants at the head of the klamm which served great, home-cooked food. There are also a couple of souvenir stalls. We chose a lovely sunny day and this added greatly to the beauty of the klamm. We took dozens of photos. I suffer from claustrophobia quite badly and was worried I might find the narrow walkways and the short tunnel a problem, but in fact I had no worries at all. This may have been because there were not too many people walking through at the time.
I really recommend this as an excursion from Salzburg. Good shoes are needed but there is no arduous climbing. There are some wooden steps but nothing too strenuous.
This trip could be done on public transport as there are good train links between Salzburg and St Johann in Pongau. There may be organised tours from Salzburg but I don%26#39;t have information on any at the moment.

Hi LizR
Can you tell me what is the length of the route in the gorge and how much time it takes roubdtrip? Can a senior person with some difficulties make this?
Thank you very much
