I have a one day/night layover in Vienna. I hope to leave my luggage at the airport. Where%26#39;s an interesting %26amp; safe place to stay near something worthwhile doing in one day? Would also like to listen to music if possible! Thanks.

I would stay anywhere in the city centre in order to feel the %26quot;old%26quot; and %26quot;imperial%26quot; Vienna. As your question is very common, I recommend to search the forum for further information and/or visit:

Stay between the State Opera an Stephansdom on the Ringstrausse. It is safe and very central. This is the hotel that I liked, but there are many in that area.

Don%26#39;t stay on the Ringstrasse - the surging traffic is depressing! Stay rather in the old city, as Mikey suggests, in the pedestrian zone at the centre. There are loads of Pensions and hotels there - and the older places have genuine single rooms to reduce your costs. Some places to try would be Pension Pertschy, Pension Nossek, Hotel Pension Lumes, Pension Aviano and Pension Suzanne. If you want something a little more luxurious try Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth or Hotel Konig von Ungarn. They%26#39;re all very central and close to Stephansdom, the Hofburg, and the opera. I travel solo to Vienna all the time and would feel safe in any of those hotels, and you%26#39;re unlikely to have problems in the central district - though watch out for professional pickpockets.

Vienna is nice, safe, and clean. So, you won%26#39;t go wrong with any choice you made if centrally located. I didn%26#39;t think there were many people in the area we stayed in at all. Surging traffic. LOL!!! Then again I am from near Philly and NY.

If you don%26#39;t think the traffic on the Ringstrasse surges just try crossing it anywhere but at a red traffic light!
