Hi there
Does anyone know of any vantage points where we might be able to view the Eagles Nest from? We will be travelling in February / March, so figure we wont be able to go up to the Eagles Nest, but would still really like to be able to see it from somewhere. So if anyone knows of any points where we might be able to do this, it would be awesome to hear from you.
We will definitely try to do the bunkers and 3rd Reich museum though.
Thanks everyone

If you drive the Deutsche Alpenstrasse (German Alpine Road) B-306/B305 from the Siegsdorf exit of the Munich - Salzburg Autobahn (A-8) toward Inzell and Berchtesgaden, after the B-305 turns left at Schneizlreuth (about 22 km from the Siegsdorf traffic circle (aka roundabout), the road climbs and then parallels the Watzmann mountain across the valley on your right. Straight ahead, as you are driving to the east you will see a distinct mountain peak, the Kehlstein. If you look hard, you should see the building of the Eagle%26#39;s Nest (aka Kehlsteinhaus) near the peak. Don%26#39;t feel badly that you won%26#39;t be able to go there. It%26#39;s main attraction is the view from the top. The building itself is simply a restaurant. Very touristy, when open.
Incidentally, if you want to have a mountain view similar to that from the Kehlsteinhaus, when you get on the B-305 to the Berchtesgaden Railroad Station, turn right toward Koenigsee. Before you get there, on your left is the parking area and valley terminal of the Jenner gondola lift. You have a great view from the top of the Jenner lift.

Awesome... Thank you soo much for that. My husband was really disappointed that we wouldnt be able to go up there, (initially we had planned to go in July / August when we could go up, but now going in Winter) but if it is only a restaurant and more touristy type thing, rather than history, then i dont feel as bad. We want to do more of the historical thing, which is what we thought is was, so I think that will make him feel a lot better.
I think we will do the Jenner cable car, read something about that earlier, and sounds / looks beautiful.
Thanks again for that!

Are you staying in Salzburg? If so there is an easy way to see the Kehlsteinhaus. The road from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden (B160 which becomes B305) has a turning on the left between Marktschellenberg and Berchtesgaden which leads onto Rossfeldstrasse. This is a scenic toll road which circumnavigates a mountain. On one stretch you can see the eagle%26#39;s nest. Rossfeldstrasse is well worth a visit for its all round views.
We have also viewed it from the Jenner mountain, as Treplow advises. The Jennerbahn is easy to find, in the car park at Konigsee). All the views from the top of there are stunning, especially the view of Konigsee. You might find the eagle%26#39;s nest is the least interesting thing to look at :-)
