Going to Salzburg for one day - from Vienna or Prague?

Hi, We will be arriving to Vienna in early June. We will also go to Prague and Budapest by trains and back to Vienna before heading home. want to visit Salzburg as well. It is %26quot;easier%26quot; and more economical to go to Salzburg on our way to Prague or on our way back from Prague to Vienna?

Thanks in advance.

Often you get a cheap fair on the OBB if you leave Austria and got to east europe. My fare was 19 euro to head to Prague from Vienna. So from Vienna, head to Prague and then go to Salzburg and back home. However, keep in mind that it%26#39;s about 6-7 hours from Prague to Salzburg. Although Salzburg is small, it has alot to do so you should give it 2 days. Get the Salzburg card.

Wow, I did not know that it%26#39;s about 6-7 hours from Prague to Salzburg.

Thanks for the reply.

There is an early train which gets in at Salzburg at a reasonable time to get some sightseeing in, and it only costs €19, which is much cheaper than if you buy a ticket from Vienna to Salzburg and then to Prague. It is not an uncomfortable train - just bring a couple of good books :)

If you do Vienna - Prague (€29), then Prague - Salzburg (€19), then Salzburg - Vienna (€44), it will work out cheaper than going the other way, and certainly cheaper than getting a pass (which will cost about twice as much).

Gcek, thanks again for your valuable info. We want to visit Budapest as well. Do you suggest any different route then? Or still Vienna - Prague - Salzburg -Vienna - Budapest - Vienna?

IMHO that would be the most sensible way of doing it.

Good luck and have fun!
