I really searched for this info online but can%26#39;t find it. Maybe I%26#39;m using the wrong keywords. I have a 7:40 am BA flight to London. I%26#39;m coming from the 9th district and would just like to take a streetcar to the U4, which takes me to Wien Mitte. I need to be at Wien Mitte at 5:08 to get to the airport at 5:33 via the Schnellbahn.
Will I have any trouble catching a streetcar (#43 or 44) at 4:30 am to get to the U-bahn by 4:45am? Do they run that early?
Thanks.

I am afraid you will have to take a taxi - #43 and 44 do not run that early. The first U4 service does leave at 4:45 a.m. from Heiligenstadt, so it would rather depend on where you mean to catch it for Wien-Mitte. There is a night bus service (buses every half hour), but they only serve specific routes. You can do a proper timetable check here www.wienerlinien.at/wl/ep/home.do?tabId=0 .
I would take the taxi straight to Wien-Mitte, traffic-wise there should not be any hassle/delay at that time of the day, and as the airport train only goes every half hour, you will not want to miss your connection.

I%26#39;m not sure you%26#39;d need to be at the airport as early as 05:33 for an 07:40 scheduled flight. Perhaps other frequent users of the BA flight can comment. The 06:08 CAT would get you to the airport at 06:24 for example.

I have it in ingrained in my head to be 2 hours early for an international flight, however, I typically depart from very large airports. I already have my boarding pass, but I do need to check a bag. I%26#39;d be interested in hearing any experiences people may have had with early flights from Vienna to London.

I think being there a bit more than one hour in advance is enough. Vienna Airport is easy to overlook. Walking time from Check-in to the gates between 3 and maybe 8 minutes.
For flights of Austrian Airlines, check-in time is 45 minutes prior to departure... I assume it%26#39;s the same with BA.
Your flight ins within the EU, but you will have to go thru passport control als Great Britain is not part of the Schengen agreement.

For future reference for time schedules of public transport
use www.wienerlinien.at Look under Fahrpläne You will find time schedules for all modes of transport.
The early morning hours 6:30-8:00 are a busy time at the airport.
While it is a realtively short walk from Checkin areas to the gates, I find that very often you have an extended wait for the security check 15 minutes plus. This perhaps due to the busy hour and limited staff.
While Vienna , like many other airports sees a major drop in passengers, having some extra minutes for such as the above helps especially for those that are stressful travelers.
