Cycling along the Danube from Passau to Bratislava

I JUST HAVE CHANGED THE TITLE TO THIS TOPIC:-)

Hi,

Has anybody cycled along the Danube from Passau to Bratislava? Or from Vienna to Bratislava? I would be glad to hear about it.

Thank you very much to Vertikal for all the information. As you can see I would like to hear another oppinion - if possible.

But after what I have read about the tour (and after having read your mail, Vertikal), I think it is not worth the trouble - is it?

Regards

Lis

(Please excuse me for my English (writing and spelling), it is MANY years since I went to school and learned the languager)

I have never done it before, but for the Vienna - Bratislava section you go through a national park for much of the way, but if you are cycling along the left bank, just before you reach Hainburg you will have to cross over the bridge, otherwise you will be stuck with no way of crossing the river to Slovakia. It is therefore possibly easier to stay on the right bank all the way. Then you can either cross the Most Lafranconi or Novy Most (the second one is probably better and more spectacular :)) when you get to Bratislava.

As I say, I have never done it, but it must be possible.

I have been on the trail from Vienna toward Bratislava. This was a very uninteresting ride to me perhaps unless you were a bird watcher or naturalist it might be better.

To my knowledge only the left side of the River has a path in this area. The bike path is some distance away from the Danube for most of the way.

We rode as far as the area of the town of Orth, perhaps about half way to Bratislava. A nice fish restaurant is found by the river several kilometers off the bike path by Orth. I believe most of the Park is on the left side as you journey.

I have visited Bratislava by train. A visit of a few hours is enough. A few cafes in the center . Prices seemed high for value delivered.

Many bike the Danube portion Passau to Krems. This is very popular in summer and offers varied scenery between the many villages. Paths are found on both sides of the river.

I have done parts of this trail as it is an easy train ride with bikes permitted from Vienna.

Many books and more to provide good dirctions and tips for htis route.

Probably using google, you can find many recommendations.

April May September October are very good for this.

July and August finds many vacationers on this route.
