Hello All, I will be in Prague in late May/early June. I will have a weekend to travel outside the area. Shall I go to Vienna or Salzburg? I will only have time to visit one. I thought Vienna but a friend prefers Salzburg - I need more information. Travel by train, I expect. Many thanks.

Salzburg is a great town which can be easily explored in two days. In early June, you%26#39;ll be able to get good deals at Salzburg%26#39;s top hotels as the peak season is only in late July-August (Salzburg Festival).
Vienna is much bigger than Salzburg and you would need much more time to really see the famous museums, palaces and maybe also visit a concert or an opera performance. Of course, if you skip the museums, you%26#39;ll be able to get an impression of Vienna within one weekend as well, but I must say that this impression of Vienna might be rather similar or even inferior to the one of Prague as the cities, in my opinion are rather similar, Prague maybe being a bit %26quot;prettier%26quot; than Vienna, but having less to offer behind the facades (museums, music, food).
Therefore, a weekend in Salzburg might better complement your trip to Prague, but you should come back and visit Vienna at a later point, reserving at least 4 or 5 days for it.
The train trip from Prague to Salzburg will take 7 hours as opposed to 4-5 hours for the trip to Vienna.

I love both Salzburg and Vienna but from Prague, you will pass alot of time in transport if you go to Salzburg. It%26#39;s 7 hours from Prague to Salzburg and 3.5 from Prague to Vienna. And there aren%26#39;t that many %26quot;direct trains%26quot; from Prague to Salzburg so be careful as you don%26#39;t want to have to transfer.
Vienna is much larger, but they have a museum quarter, the Albertina, palaces, Spanish Riding Schhol, St. Stephens cathedral, etc.
The good news is whichever one you choose, you will have a great time.
