We will be traveling from Vienna to Prague on Easter Sunday with our two children. I%26#39;ve read the various posts about not needing to buy tix in advance, just show up 30 min in advance. However I don%26#39;t know if this same advice would apply to traveling on Easter. We arrive in Vienna on the Friday before - would a two day advance purchase (reserved seats) be do-able or should I fork out the extra cash and buy them before our trip for peace of mind? Thanks!

You need to be careful! Seat reservations are mandatory on Czech (tilting) trains, while others do not require it. To sort out what trains are affected please visit http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/e
I would definitely do it upon arrival in Vienna. Between Vienna and Prague you can rely on 8 daily trains. You will get your seat - promised!

Thanks Mikey Vienna. I%26#39;d been hoping you would reply since you know lots about the train situation in Vienna!

If you want to save money, you can also book the Sparschiene savings fares (with the green shamrock). Standard fare is € 58,20.
At the moment, the € 29 Sparschiene fares are available on April 12 for the following trains:
EC 14, dep. 10:58
EC 16, dep. 15:58
EC 72, dep. 16:58
EC 70, dep. 18:58
These are self-print tickets (you%26#39;ll get a PDF file at the end of the booking process). Mind that Sparschiene (Savings fares) are non refundable or changeable. They include a seat reservation.
More info %26amp; ticket booking on the Austrian Railways Website:
