Central Europe: 13 days. Options

HI all.

I ve reviewed the forums before posting.

After research, seem to me that 13 days can be a good span of time to do a lot in a Vienna-Prague-Berlin train route city only trip.

BUT, also reading the forums I have discovered very interesting small cities/towns in Austria %26amp; Czhez Republic ( even Bratislava in slovakia is and option). Avoiding the long leg from Prague to Berlin.

What do you think? WE are a party of 2, mid 30s , very well traveled in a budget traveling scenario ( as we come from south america Euros is a strong currency for us). Travel Dtaes: last week of September 2009.

OPtion (A) Vienna-Prague-Berlin. 4 days each.

Option (B) Vienna %26amp; surroundings + Prague %26amp; Surroundings. 6 days each.

Maybe from Vienna one day trip to zalsburg and/or Bratislava , and from Prague one night stand in Cesky or Brno or another small town.

your ideas suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Alfredo

As Berlin is a very worthwhile and interesting city, I would go for option A. Furthermore, four days are enough to see the most of the cities stated.

What about Vienna(3d)%26gt;Salzburg(1d)%26gt;Cesky Krumlov(1d)%26gt;Prague(3d)%26gt;Dresden(1d)%26gt;Berlin(3d)?

There is a direct train from Salzburg to Ceske Budejovice (direction: Prague), from where it is not far to Cesky Krumlov by rail or regional bus. Alterntively, you could go back to Linz (on a train towards Vienna), from whose main railway station a shuttle (www.shuttlelobo.cz) cdirectly heads for Cesky Krumlov.

Thks Mikey Vienna.

I asked for option (a) or (b) and you gave to me a new option: (a) + (b) . Great Answer!!! ;)

actually looking into Lobo shuttle, there is a shuttle from Vienna or Szalsburg directly to Cesky Krumlov. It could be a very good option.

Is definitively Cesky Krumlov the small town to visit In Czech Republic ??

Is Salzburg the town to visit in Austria??

sorry about mi speling in English, i know it is not perfect.

I will continue my research, and wait for other opinions.

Brno is a fantastic place that is bang in the middle of Vienna and Prague - it is easy to reach by train from Vienna (1.5 hrs) and costs 19 Euros.http://www.oebb.at/pv/en/Travel_within_Europe/SparSchiene/SparSchiene_Czech_Republic/index.jsp Český Krumlov is also beautiful, but a lot more difficult (and time-consuming) to reach. Bratislava does not offer as much as Brno in the way of sights/things to do as it is mainly a business destination. It is also a lot more expensive.

Have fun!

Yes, I would rate Salzburg as most interesting town in Austria (if we differ between city and town), what is proved by the vast number of visitors every year. Some even prefer Salzburg to Vienna. No idea whether Cesky Krumlov is THE place in the Czech Republic, but at least a lot of people travel there. So there must be something special...

HI with no time but weekends to plan my trip.

I have found an interesting 1 day trip to Melk and wachau region ( melk, krems) .

Also i have read a lot about Vienna it seems prety busy with many things to do, so I am expecting to stay 4Days in Vienna + 1Day in Salzburg OR Melk to have a country side view.

Is Melk-krems worth 1D-1Night spending¿

definitively after that i will go to Prague via Brno or Cesky krumlov ( 6Days more) to finish my trip. Leaving Berlin out ;(

By the way is octuber ( 1st %26amp; 2nd week) too cold ¿¿ seems as per weather channel that it is NOT.

thanks for ur opinions and advise

If you are coming in October, I would suggest Salzburg for the daytrip from Vienna (3 hours on the train, some connections are even faster, I usually take a train from Salzburg back to Vienna that takes 2,5 hours and only stops once on route, in Linz, I think it is) rather than Melk/the Wachau. It is, of course, quite possible that you will meet with what we call an %26quot;Altweibersommer%26quot; (Old Women´s Summer, roughly) in early to mid October, still quite warm and with the colourful leaves etc, but it is also possible that it will be wet and cold; so Salzburg, as one of the major towns in Austria - if not big in comparison to Vienna, but none of the Austrian towns are - is the safer bet for possible indoor activities/experiences. Or at least for lots of places for hot coffee, cakes etc ;).

In Melk you have the beautiful Monastery - and I presume then you would mean to take the boat down the Danube to Dürnstein and Krems. Dürnstein is a quaint, lovely but tiny village, the main attraction being the ruins (Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned there) towering on a rock above it - and its location, so it should be enjoyed on a nice-ish day, in my mind.

Though if you are flexible in your plans and don´t necessarily mean to book much in advance, you could of course make it dependable on the weather situation.

HI ,

seems that i have found another interesting option that i would like to comment here to get advise / opinions.

Given salzburg the town of choice to give 1D/1N stay from VIenna, seems that a near, interesting destination is Munich, in Bavaria ( in Octoberfest dates!!). The connection from salzburg is pretty cheap using some bavarian ticket.

ALso Munich - Prague by train using Bavarian-Bohemia ticket is cheap and about 6hour train ride.

So another option for my 13 days trip could be:

Vienna(4D) --%26gt; Salzburg(1D) --%26gt; Munich (3D) --%26gt; Prague (4D + 1Day trip with return to prague ).

opinions? is Munich in Octoberfest a place to go or it is a crowded / tourist fully city? I know it should go to Munich board....

thanks in advance

Hi, continue my research

it is almst impossible to book an cheap and nice hotel in munch in octoberfest

So i am changing my mind, leaving Munich as my last stop and beginning in Prague, thas is:

Prague (4D) + 1D/1N day tour --%26gt; Vienna ( 4D) --%26gt; Salzburg (1D/1N) ---%26gt; Munich (3D). That is a bit of everything ( Germany, austria ans czech republic).

|||

That looks more sensible (and manageable)!

GCEK

i have seen your post in the Prague forum. An that is a question that i would like to know ur opinion....

I am at this point leaving two options open:

1) the one already mentioned:

Prague (4D) + 1D trip to Kutna Hora --%26gt; Vienna (4D) --%26gt; Salzburg (1D) --%26gt; Munich(3D), off Octoberfest.

BUt i think it is still very %26quot;trainy%26quot; ( a lot of trains in a 13 days itinerary ).

Aftr some research on Czech sites, i can not - at least - explore this itinerary:

2) The Czech republic/Austria travel

Prague(4D)--%26gt;Kutna HOra(1D)--%26gt; Cesky Krumlov(2D)---%26gt;Salzburg(2D)--%26gt;Vienna(4D).

It seems cheaper, less time spend in trains ( as there are shuttle buses from Cesky Krumlov to Salzburg ) and more relaxed as Cesky Krumlov could be a romantic , somewhat quiet spot in the itinerary Many people in the forums talk about Cesky Krumlov as a real nice town not to miss if en Czech republic for few days.

opinions?

thks
