We have about an 8 hour drive from our home in Germany to our vacation destination to Lake Garda. With little kids though, we would like to break up the trip and stop for a day and a night somewhere along the middle. This isn%26#39;t quite the middle, but trying to decide on the perfect place to stop! :) any tips?

In order to find the perfect place, we would need to know more of your preferences and itinerary. If you are interested in a (little) city, Innsbruck is definitely fine. There is an Alpine Zoo showing animals whose habitat are the Alps. Furthermore, you can take ropeways up to an altitude of 2.200m (Nordpark), where you%26#39;d enjoy a breathtaking view. The city itself has a compact and nice center whose most famous sight is the house with golden roof (=Goldenes Dachl).

Are you aware of the fact that you must be in possession of a motorway toll sticker in order to use Austrian motorways? This sticker must be adhered to the windshield of the car. Motorways are coded with the prefixes A- and S-.

Where will be your %26quot;home%26quot; in Germany? There are other places that may be more %26quot;in the middle%26quot; than Innsbruck and offer fun for the kids. Are you planning to be at the north end of Lake Garda, the South end (Sirmione),or the middle, on the east or west shore. I know that goes beyond your question, but since I have been many times to Lake Garda, I may be of some additional help here.

We actually have 2 days and 2 nights now of time. We have 3 children, ages 7, 5, and 1. I am sure any place we stay will be wonderful. This will be our first time in Austria. I just know with driving through mountains what may look like the 1/2 way point on a map could be way off. We are coming from Wittlich Germany and going to Toscolano-Maderno on Lake Garda. Yes, we know about the pass that we will need to drive in Austria. Thank you!
