Hallstatt and Gmunden in a day...

Hi, I am basing myself in Bad Ischl in August and will be buying a ER ticket shared with a fren of mine. To make full use of this ticket, we intend to do Hallstatt and Gmunden in a day starting from early morning(sunday) around 7-8am to Hallstatt first and then proceed to Gmunden and then at 18:58 from Gmnden, a 5-6hrs trainride all the way to Wien. SO my question--is this daytrip doable and not too rushing? Would i miss alot in Hallstatt and Gmunden lets say 4hrs in Hallstatt and 3 in Gmunden. Are there luggagge store in Hallstatt and Gmunden train station? Thank you...

Not too rushing ? That is a quetion?

You try to do too much in too little time with too little money.

Hallstatt does not have a train station, only a shed. No place to leave luggage. From the train you will cross the lake to the town. If you spend the time to go there , spend time to see things . 4 hours is not enough.

This journey is best accomplished from Bad Ischl as a day trip. Leave your luggage in the accomodation.

I believe you also ask about the westbahnhof to spend the overnight.

Nearby are several clean and cheap hostels, perhaps 20 euro for a night of sleep. The Westbahnhof is now in deep renovation. It is no place to spend anytime except to arrive or depart.

The airport can be reached by transfer bus from the Westbahnhof . The cost 6 euro check the Vienna airport website for the schedule.

It is definitely feasible but the baggage is another story. 4 hours for Hallstatt shall include a tour of the salt mine as the village itself does not really justify 4 hours (assuming someone pursues a normal pace of sightseeing). Taking your luggage with you is frankly a very bad idea as there are no storage facilities at the stations. Hallstatt%26#39;s is only a simple train stop without any facility! The next availble locker can be found at Bad Ischl Station and at Attnang-Puchheim Station, which is the transfer point for travellers going to/coming from Vienna.

You could go to Hallstatt in the morning, return to Bad Ischl, Check out, have lunch and take the succeeding train towards Gmunden. If you wanna get rid off the luggage either, then do not leave the train in Gmunden and proceed to Attnang-Puchheim, where you can store your bags. The travel time between Gmunden and Attnang-Puchheim is only 15 minutes, hence you would not really lose precious time. Take the next train back to Gmunden and enjoy!

I have checked at OBB website and took all possible sequence of stations into consideration and compare which of them is most time-efficient including from bad ischl straight to Attnang-Puchheim to store my luggages and then to gmunden and hallstatt and finally bek to Attnang-Puchheim again to catch the last train to wien. My only question now is the lggage facility at Attnang-Puchheim is it man-tended or coin-operated lockers like in bad ischl, does it operate on sunday? 24hrs working? and how is the rate, per hour or per day? Does U bahn and S7 work after mignight to bring me to schewat airport? what is the time regimen(validity) of a vienna day pass? thanks
