Cycling into Vienna

Hi,

This summer my husband and I are going to cycle along the Danube from Passau to Bratislava and return.

My problem is Vienna:-) It is usually difficult to drive into a big city. One map says there are cycling paths to the center - is that right?

Another thing: When we return from Bratislava we would like to avoid Vienna, can anyone suggest a way to do that - or isn%26#39;t it possible whithout driving a lot af miles?

Looking foreward to your answers.

Regards

Assume you refer to biking into Vienna rather than driving .

Vienna is very bike friendly- good biking paths and marked as such.

Entering Vienna at Nussdorf along the danube River , you can follow the pathway along the danube canal directly and easily to the very city center.

Good information for guidance and opportunities at

under sightseeing

Biking pathways along strrets and sidewalks allow you to visit most sights within the city.

Againn from Bratislva driving or Biking ?

If driving by auto a ring highway allows you to by pass Vienna - this found just after passing the airport traveling from Bratislava. Especiall good if yo are connecting to Autobahn A-1 for travel west of Vienna.

The Danube Island, Donauinsel is a man- made island in the Danube riverbed- it has extensive pathways including useage by bikes that runs almost conpletely the lenght of Vienna.

DCanal mentioned above that allows traffic free and unconjested passage through the city.

Excuse me - we are biking the whole trip. Perhaps it is not so difficult going by bike though Vienna, but we would very much like not to go to the city at all.

Perhaps it is not possible? What about the other side of the river?

Thank you for a very quick answer!

Unfortunately for you Vienna really covers a large area on both sides of the Danube.

The eastern side of the Danube - left side as you travel downstream is the less built up or conjested area.

Once just out of Vienna you enter an area of national Park - some quiet pathways there almost to the border. Some out of sight of the River but still a little interseting.

That side probably best for you.

But to try to circle the city could be done, it would involve travel on public roads, some conjested and makes for a much less safe ride. And much more time.

If you decide on the route through Vienna on the Danube canal- it is not really bad- this area along the Canal is a park like setting - walking paths - often some dogs and many bikers-

Perhaps you could contact the following place - some bike professionals for info . recommendations or suggestions for good mapping in the area.
