Train Price return to Munich

Hi

We are travelling to Salzburg for Easter and want to spend a few days in Munich before returning for Ryanair flight to Dublin.

Can anyone tell me the return cost on the train and do they have many per day.

Many thanks in advance

Large number of trains between Salzburg and Munich. You can choose from slower ones (regional trains) or faster trains (InterCity/EuroCity/InterCityExpress). If you are willing to take regional trains you could contemplate purchasing the Bavaria Ticket which is a pass for a maximum of 5 persons costing 28€ in total. Search the forum for more comprehensive information or visit www.bahn.de

If you travel Mon-Fri after 9am, the cheapest way to travel is by Bayernticket. You can buy it from the ticket machines at Salzburg (or with a surcharge of 2 € from the ticket window). It is valid for a group of up to 5 people and valid on all means of public transport in Bavaria (S-Bahn suburban train, IRE InterRegioExpress, RE RegionalExpress, RB RegionalBahn, U-Bahn Underground, Tram and all local and regional busses). Valid Mon-Fri 9am to 3am next day, Sat/Sun midnight to 3am next day. Cost is € 28 which is incredible cheap.

There are also many faster ICE,EC,IC or railjet trains which are much more expensive. Travel time by ICE/EC/IC/railjet about 1:30, by RE/RB about 2 hours.

Salzburg Airport is well connected to the city center and the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) by the trolley bus. Better buy the tickets from the ticket machine (and stamp them on the bus) as they are cheaper than from the driver.

Mind that the Bayernticket is only valid on the trains from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof to Bavaria... not in Salzburg itself! It is also sold at any ticket machine in Munich.

In Munich, there are also so called %26quot;Partner%26quot;tickets which are valid for up to 5 passengers. Cost: 1 day € 9, 3 days € 21 for the city zone.
