We will be spending July and 1/2 of August in Innsbruck this summer with our 3 year-old son. I%26#39;m wondering if anyone has any preschooler friendly suggestions for activities in or near Innsbruck and/or weekend trips. Also, we%26#39;d like to do some hiking with him, but aren%26#39;t sure the best way to do that (hiking backpack?). Thanks!

I would contemplate the following activities:
Suggestion #1
Visit the Alpine Zoo (North side of Innsbruck) where you find wildlife whose habitat are the Alps. Definitely entertaining and interesting for toddlers and adults alike.

Suggestion #2
In conjunction with the Alpine Zoo you could explore the Nordpark Area, a National Park with relatively rough mountains. The highest oberservation deck is at 2.250m above sea level (Hafelekar Station).

Suggestion #3
Take the tram #ST (=Stubaitalbhn) from Innsbruck to Fulpmes, a village in the Stubaital Valley.
Suggestion #4
What about swimming and boating at Lake Achensee? Great area there but be aware that the water temperatue of this lake is low.

Thanks so much. This was really helpful. The website was great and Lake Achensee looks beautiful, we will definitely plan a trip up there. I appreciate your help! We%26#39;re looking forward to a great summer!
