Hotels with free wireless internet

Hi, I%26#39;ve been searching for a hotel for a couple of nights next week and found conflicting information on the price pop ups regarding free wireless internet in hotels. Some say they have wi-fi, then it transpires you have to pay €10 an hour for it. Others say they only have it public areas or just dial up. Anyway, I%26#39;m there on business but also want to follow some sport in the evenings so my question is; does anyone a decent hotel that has free wi-fi? Thanks in advance.

I agree that the %26quot;free%26quot; hotel wifi that turns out to cost 10 euro per hour or something is a problem!

Hotel (formerly Pension) Pertschy has genuinely free wireless network access in the guest rooms and public areas and it actually works, which I know cos I tried it! Pertschy is highly recommended anyway for the central location and excellent facilities so that%26#39;s a good choice for a visit - see www.pertschy.com for info and booking.

Hotel Alma, their sister hotel on the Schwedenplatz, also has free WIFI tho I had problems with it - but that time I took a very antique laptop which probably accounted for the trouble I had. Certainly the signal was strong in the guest rooms.

The other branch of the Pertschy family also has two hotels, Pension Baronesse (further out of the centre in the 8th district) and Pension Aviano right in the middle of town, off the Kaerntnerstrasse. If they say they have WIFI (and they do) I believe %26#39;em! Their site is www.secrethomes.at

There is a free WIFI network operated in Vienna called Freewave. Some hotels and also cafes and restaurants offer it, and it does work and is genuinely free, though the network is open access, and not secured (Pertschy has a secure network with password supplied at Reception, if that%26#39;s an issue for you, but Alma is open-access).

This site has a list of the places you can access Freewave http://www.freewave.at/en/hotspots

You%26#39;ll see it includes some other hotels including Hotel Austria and Hotel Kaerntnerhof - both are in the central first district and have good reviews. I often go to the cafe at the Hofburg to use their Freewave WIFI and to guzzle their yummy poppyseed cake!

I%26#39;ve also found this site useful searching for free WIFI www.hotspot-locations.com
