Munich or Vienna

I have 4 days in June after a convention in Birmingham that I definately wanted to go to the Salzburg area. I had initially planned on getting to Salzburg for a couple of days and then staying in Vienna for two days and leaving from there. I can change my flight to leave from Munich instead and actually save money and miles. I am now re-thinking my trip to eiter spend the entire time in Salzburg or maybe a day or so in Munich instead of Vienna. Any suggestions?

Well, we can%26#39;t make the decision for you! You need to determine which city attracts you more. Both cities will doubtlessly entertain and impress you. I know that this does not really help, but in the end it is up to you....

I wouldn%26#39;t stay more than 1 day in Salzburg, even half a day will be enough to walk around the city centre and go up to the castle to enjoy the view.

Munich and VIenna are similar in a lot of ways when it comes to historic sights, architecture, parks, etc.

If you are intersted in royal palaces, etc. I would choose Vienna, as the Sissi palaces (Schloss Schoenbrunn and the Hofburg) are larger and more impressive than the palaces in and around Munich, but which are still very nice to visit too (Residenz, Schloss Nymphenburg, Schloss Schleissheim). June however will be great for visiting the beergardens in Munich.

Both cities have great art museums too.

Both cities are favorites of mine so it really is a hard decision to prefer one over the other. Good thing, you can%26#39;t go wrong with either choice.

I have chosen Munich for flight schedules and prices in the past and really enjoy the city. I have visited 4x and find it friendly and with lots of diversions.

The Viktualienmarkt is really a pleasure and there are a good variety of hotels and restaurants in all price ranges. If you enjoy museums, Munich has them and overall it is a nice city.

Salzburg is very different and I love it there. Perhaps two nights in each - that is what I would choose. 90 minutes apart by train and a really nice contrast.

Having visited Vienna 3x, my choices would be Munich and Salzburg.

Here is an option: Spend all the time in Munich, and take a day trip to Salzburg. You can use the Bayernkarte. For deatils enter %26quot;Bayernkarte%26quot; in the Search box in the top left corner of this forum. This way, you can also take another day trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, again using the Bayernkart.

Thanks for the help! I have never travelled to that region so with the short time frame I needed some advice. I have switched my flight so I am in for those two cities on this trip.

Have a great trip! We are headed back in December and already counting the days!
