The centre of Vienna is enclosed by the Ringstraße and the Donaukanal and is officially know as the Innere Stadt.

I recommend that you use the following website to find suitable hotels:

The city center is the First district descibed as above . easy to recognize anything in that area as the postal code is 1010.

Several hotels

4 star Steigenberger Herrenhof

on Herrengasse - a 3 minute walk to the Hofburg Palace complex and other sightseeing . 50 meters to the famous Cafe Central.

very close to the bus stop for bus # 2A and 3 A that take you through the city center.

Ubahn U-3 Herrengasse stop just a few steps away.

many retaurnts and shopping too.

This is a newly opened hotel in a renovated building.

Also good -Hotel Pertschy ( formerly Pension Pertschy ) on Hapsburgergasse - near most everything - very close to Spanish Riding School and Hofburg -

many posters here like this place- good restaurants nearby-

if you like antiques- many antique and art galleries near too.

Both offer good comfort and ideal location.

Barney - my friend Vertical gives you good advice, but there are probably dozens of decent hotels in Vienna we could recommend. They all differ in price, ambience and decor. Can you give us any clues about what you%26#39;re looking for?

Also Vienna has what is regarded as one of the world%26#39;s best transport systems so don%26#39;t be afraid to look at hotels outside the Innere Stadt - often you get more for less and they can be a few minutes away from the centre.
