I%26#39;ll be in Vienna the last week in April, and will have another 5-7 days to travel around Europe. Recommendations for places to go that are easy to get to from Vienna (by direct train/plane) that will be somewhat relaxing? We%26#39;ll have already spent a whirlwind week in Germany and Prague prior. TIA.

Mac - your criteria (reachable by direct train/plane) opens up just about the whole of Europe! Is it posssible for you to be more specific? Do you want to stay in Austria or its immediate neighbours?

you can relax in St. Wolfgang or Hallstat, both are very small each with breathtaking views of the mountains from a stunning lake. I liked Wolfgang a bit more, since it was a little bigger and had a bit more to do.

I agree with BrightTravels re Hallstatt etc. Since you are in Austria, you simply must go to the Salzkammergut region - it%26#39;s spectacular!
An easy 4-5 hr train trip from Vienna, and the region includes the above towns as well as the beautiful city of Salzburg, and picture postcard villages in the lake district. ie. Bad Aussee, Bad Ischl, Alt Aussee and many more.
You really won%26#39;t go wrong with a few days in this region. It just doesn%26#39;t get more beautiful.

Try the Wachau region, an easy 1 1/4 hour train trip from Vienna. We spent five nights in Dürnstein after my hubby%26#39;s business trip to Innsbruck and before our four nights in Vienna. Perfect relaxation with cycling through vineyards along the Danube, boat and ferry trips, fabulous food, touring the Melk monastery, beautiful castles and more. So much to see in such a small area.
Wachau is also a UNESCO world heritage site.

Budapest if you are going by train. Or take a small plane from Vienna to Venice and surrounding areas in Italy. I like Paris as well, but it is not as relaxing as Venice.
