Hello,
I%26#39;m taking my partner (who doesn%26#39;t log on to here!!) to Vienna for a 60th birthday culture-binge in May. It will be our first visit, so I%26#39;d appreciate any thoughts about accommodation - I don%26#39;t want to pay a vast amount, I guess £100-ish tops per night, as the ballet at the Staatsoper has proven to be unexpectedly pricey (though on the other hand Aer Lingus flights from the UK are oddly reasonable....). And also any tips for 2 days (Sat pm to Mon pm) of Kultur? Many thanks,
Simon.

Hi Simon
Can%26#39;t personally help you with a gay-friendly hotel but if you look on this page on the Vienna Tourist Board site it gives some tips for gays:
www.wien.info/article.asp?IDArticle=14843
and if you go to their hotel search there%26#39;s a box you can check for %26quot;Gay-friendly%26quot;:

Also try searching %26quot;gay%26quot; in the search box on this forum and look at Rough Guide and Lonely Planet pages on %26quot;Gay/Lesbian Vienna%26quot;.
As for the culture bit can you be specific which weekend you%26#39;re there as the Vienna Festival starts on 8th May?

I think that in these times hotels don%26#39;t have to be gay-friendly anymore. Just book one that attracts you.

The number one B %26amp; B listed here says it is gay owned...maybe that would be what you are looking for.

My apologies...I am looking back and forth from Vienna to Budapest and it was in Budapest that I saw the Kapital Inn...not Vienna...so I don%26#39;t have any suggestion for you.

Hello, and thanks for the replies.
Norman, we%26#39;ll be in Vienna from 2 to 4 May, and I%26#39;ve already booked R and J at the Staatsoper for the 3rd. Any other ideas would be welcome!
Simon.

One of the most famous sites for some in Vienna is the Kaiserbrundl Baths.
this is just off Kartnerstrasse on Weihburgasse 18.
suggest you go to their website
www.kaiserbruendl.at
frequented by the brother of Emperor Franz Josef and other european royalty.

Beppo - not sure if Simon%26#39;s taking his partner for a 60th birthday cultural treat that cruising in a gay sauna would be the ideal!
Simon - Vienna%26#39;s second opera house, the Volksoper, has a well known production of Fledermaus on the 2nd and La Boheme on the 4th. Ticket prices are much less than the Staatsoper.
volksoper.at/Content.Node2/home/index.en.php
The Berlin Staatskapelle under Daniel Barenboim are performing Mahler at the famous Golden Hall of the Musikverein on the 2nd.

The Tourist Board website I mentioned before has an events calendar as well. Put in your dates and ctrl-click the type of events you%26#39;re interested and you%26#39;ll get a comprehensive listing (with links) to what%26#39;s on that weekend. Ask if you need further details on anything.
