Day trip to Budapest?

We will be in Vienna beginning of May for 4 nights. Is a guided day trip to Budapest worth the time. The trip is 12 hours total. It was suggested by a friend, but not so sure.

Any input appreciated!

You can do it if you wish, but you will only scratch a tiny bit of the surface of the city (as with any day trip). I would personally give it longer, but if it is guided then maybe you might see some things that you might otherwise miss if you went on your own.

I would ask in the Budapest forum as well.

Best option is to take a tour. I spended 3 days in Budapest and still didn%26#39;t have enought time to visit everything. It%26#39;s a beautiful city! Night life it%26#39;s great. Have fun!

I dont think a day trip to Budapest is enough. Becoz the night scenes of Budapest is marvellous.

You can actually explore the city by yourself. But if you really want a guided tour, I think it would be better to get a Hop-on%26amp;off bus tour. The ticket is valid for 24 hours and you can hop off at the places you want. The beneficial part is that if you take a 10am bus today, you can actually have a final lift the next day at 10am.

I have done it and plan to do it again - but if it is your first time, a day trip to such a big and interesting city as Budapest will probably not be enough, especially when you consider that it takes you about 3 hours to get there and 3 hours back. And a guided trip won´t permit you to concentrate on what you really want or to stay there as long as you want.

If you are interested in a day trip, you might wish to explore Bratislava, which is only about an hour from Vienna (regular and affordable train connections to both main stations there, an EURegio ticket for one day costs EUR 14,- return and includes public transport in Bratislava. It need not be bought in advance.) and smaller so you would get to see and do more in a day. The old town is quite lovely as is the castle.

Day trips within Austria could include the Wachau www.wachau.at or Schlosshof www.schlosshof.at , for example, but as you´ll be staying 4 nights %26quot;only%26quot;, you might be more than occupied with Vienna already.
