Next Saturday I want to drive from Mittelberg to Avoriaz in France. Maps.google.com indicates that I have to drive from Fischen im Allgau to Dornbirn via OA9 and B205. But this looks like a mountainroad. So I wonder: can I take this road in the winter? Is the road open? Or should I take an alternative road?

You refer to Mittelberg in the Kleinwalsertal I assume. - just one way out of this valley as you already know. - that into Germany on #19.
I have driven this in the winter into Germany - that portion to Fischen should be Ok but probably crowded due to weekend skiers and those vacationers to/ from ski resorts.
The road you refer to correctly as a mountainroad from Fischen, I would avoid in winter - this is the road of the Riedberg pass - relatively high altitude - steep grades - many curves - should it be open - certainly hard and slow driving. Perhaps even closed now as many areas have had good amounts of snow.
To my knowledge better to go further north to Immenstadt and then west on#308 ? toward eventually the #205 in a better situation and onward to Dornbirn. Check your map for good roadway numbers.
But it is perhaps better that you ask this question on the german forum - perhaps some one there knows these roads much better than me.

As Vertical indicated, the Fischen - Dornbirn route is mostl likely closed because of snow. Following Vertical%26#39;s advise, take the B-308 as far as Bad Oberstaufen. Head south from Oberstaufen toward Aach (border) and Hittisau. At Aach, pick up the Austrian B-205. From Oberstdorf (where you leave the Kleine Walsertal) it is about 70km to Dornbirn.
I don%26#39;t know how you plan to drive to France from Dornbirn. If it is via Switzerland, be sure to stay off the Austrian autobahn without a user%26#39;s vignette. It can be done, just look at a map. You will need a Swiss vignette, if you are using the Swiss autobahns, which I assume you will have to. You can get this vignette at the border, or at a gas station before.
