Hi,
Last 2 week i just online purchase a ticket from OEBB through %26quot;Ticket by Post%26quot; method.
This is due to my route is from Prague to Salzburg then Salzburg to Venice (night train) so i cannot purchase e-ticket.
Already 2 week but i still not yet received any registered mail which contain my ticket from OEBB.
Of course, i did send them an email regarding this method and they did send me the reference number.
When i check the reference number in Austrian Post website it show that no record found. I also did send an email to Austrian Post they also confirm with me that no such reference number in their system.
At the same time, i also did call to my country post office to confirm. According to them, no such reference number in their record too.
Yesterday, i also did send another email attached with the Austrian Post email to OEBB to confirm the reference number but until now i still haven%26#39;t get any response yet.
I would like to ask normally how long does it take to send a registered mail from Austria to Malaysia?
At the same time, the reference number reliable? Will they update the system consistently? or something wrong in either parties?

The austrian postal services website says that Priority post takes 4-6 days and Economy (standard) mail 10-20 days.
Register of a letter is possible with both.
Usually the reference number works, at least for letters to Europe. I have no experience with letters to outside of Europe.

Did ÖBB say that the reference code is a registered mailing code? I would rather assume that the reference code actually is the booking code and therefore not related to any postal services (especially for internation shippings). Perhaps you can pick up the ticket in Austria at any vending machine or staffed counter using the reference code given?

Hi Mikey_Vienna,
According to OEBB they said
%26quot;We have send your tickets with the sending number RCxxxxxxxxxAT to your Address%26quot;.
For my understanding this should be the tracking number or some known as reference number used in registered mail or EMS. Because the number will be total 13 digit. While last 2 digit represent the sender country. (AT = Austria)
|||
Well, then it is the shipping registration code. I wasn%26#39;t sure. I suppose that the ticket will arrive in the next days. If we assume that there is a little time between the booking itself, the time of issuance by an agent and the final hand over to the shipping department, it is not actually delayed and should arrive very soon. No idea either how quick Malaysian Postal Service handles international shippings. When will you depart for Europe?
|||
Hi,
I will depart at the end of March.
Yesterday i send an email to Austrian Post again. Below is their reply:
%26quot;Due to our information the registered letter RC XXXXXXXXX AT has been forwarded to the USA on Feb/25/2009. Either the letter has been misdirected or the sender has given you the wrong number.
Please check back with the sender. If the consignment happens to be misdirected, please ask the sender to apply for an inquiry within one of our outlets.%26quot;
When i use the reference number check in US Postal Service (USPS) website my mail is in New York US.
I really confuse about this. Will it route from Austria to US then back to Malaysia?
|||
Well, in this world it would not surprise me if the shipping goes around the world. International Shipping is obviously done by large logistics companies which have a few bases around the globe, where shippings are transferred.
|||
Hi,
Today i just get the reply from OEBB.
According to them
%26quot;There some mistaken, so that my mail already send to New York. Will send it back to you once we direct back to mail%26quot;.
With this email, it really make me worried about that. How long does it need to redirect back the mail? It hard for me to believe that when that mail redirect back to Austria and resend back to Malaysia at that time i might be depart to Europe already.
At that moment, i might need to spend another few hundred Euro to re-purchase another ticket.
Guys,
MY ADVISE IS PLEASE DO NOT ONLINE PURCHASE REAL TICKET THROUGH INTERNET. EXCEPT THE SENDER WILLING TO SEND THROUGH DHL, FEDEX OR OTHER FASTER COURIER. OR YOU STILL HAVE 5-6 MONTH BEFORE DEPART.
|||
I didn%26#39;t know you could but a ticket from Prague - Salzburg using oebb - on www.cd.cz you can buy this ticket and it costs €19, and it is an e-ticket (I think I advised you on this previously). But no doubt you will receive your ticket soon. If all else fails then you should be able to use your booking reference (although I don%26#39;t know how that would go down in the Czech Republic).
This is the drawback of buying tickets on-line - not many people do it in this part of the world, so there are still teething problems!

I never purchased a ticket using this delivery method but I doubt that it is justified to assume that all shippings are delayed and misdirected. As already mentioned by our wise contributor GCEK, it would have been better to purchase the ticket from the railway operator, in whose country your journey commences. Because then you could attempt solving the problem on arrival.
|||
Hi GCEK,
Actually last time i did consider on your advise. The reason, i do that is because i would like to spend 1 more day in prague instead of take an early train to Salzbug.
Anyway, seem like i have no choice. According to OEBB, they said will refund to me after they get back their ticket. (i think this will be very hard to get back the money).
Well, i just online purchase the ticket as u advise previously. Explorer Salzburg in 6 hours+ seem like a challenge for me.
Thanks for all information provided.
