Hi,
Im going for a wo day break flying into Bratisalva on Ryanair. Ive never been before and i don%26#39;t know whether to stay in Vienna and visit Bratislava on the way back to the airport or stay in Bratislava and do a day trip to Vienna. What does everyont think?
Many Thanks

I would do a day trip to Bratislava from Vienna - the sights there will take you about a couple of hours (it is very small and is largely a business city), and if you go in the summer it is nice to sit at one of the street cafes and watch the world go by (not available when it is cold).
Vienna, on the other hand, is a grand imperial city with all the trappings and plenty to keep you occupied whatever the weather.
I believe that Ryanair lay on a bus to Vienna, or there is at least a bus you can get, but it all depends on where you are staying if you are staying in Vienna - accommodation in Vienna can be cheaper than in Bratislava, and there is a lot more choice, but I think they are learning their lesson (i.e. from charging too much). On the other hand, getting to your hotel in Bratislava from the airport can even work out a lot more expensive than getting to Vienna (unscrupulous taxi drivers).
It is up to you in the end - toss a coin and work around the result :)

Thank you very much for your message I was hoping someone would say that as that%26#39;s what I was thinking of. Have you heard of or been to seegrotte hinterbruhl? Is it worth a trip?

Seegrotte is quite interesting - it%26#39;s Europe%26#39;s largest man-made underground lake - and was used as a wartime armaments factory and shelter. They had a fatal accident with a boat there a few years ago, but safety has been tightened since. However it needs a train then bus connection from Vienna which would eat up most of a day so maybe not a top priority. And you need to dress warm!
There have been one or two discussions in this forum about the place - type %26quot;Seegrotte%26quot; in the above search box. Also their website is:

Hi Emma,
Just to let you know, the Bratislava castle is being recontructed at the moment, so some of the expositions are closed. You can find more info at www.muzeum.sk. you can switch the web site into english. You can get up to the castle and the view is beautiful.

With limited sightseeing time I would not think the Seegrotte is a top priority. Many sights for example in Vienna are relatively close to each other so to maximize use of your time.
For example within a very short walk in Vienna city center
Hofburg Palace
Fine Arts Museum
Museum Quarter
Spanish Riding School
Albertina
Augustiner Churh
Ringstrasse
Demel Cafe
Stephansdom
Opera House
