How many days are enough?

Hi everyone,

I would like some advice on how many days my friend and I should spend in Salzburg. We will be there in the first half of October. We were thinking of having two whole days there, but would that be enough if we also want to see the Hellbrunn Castle (which is not right in Salburg but close by, right?)?

Thank you!

Hi little petals,

You are correct, Hellbrunn is not %26quot;in%26quot; Salzburg. Is close by though. If you%26#39;re just looking to see Salzburg and Hellbrunn, 2 full days is fine, in my opinion. Salzburg%26#39;s beautiful old town is quite compact and very easy to see on foot. Enjoy! Salzburg is one of our favorites. Oh, we%26#39;ve been to Salzburg 3 times all in Oct., great time of year to travel to Austria.

Two full days would give you a nice period of time to see the sights in the city and nip down to Hellbrunn (you take the No. 25 bus which will take about twenty-five minutes). You can walk there along the Hellbrunner Allee, which is lovely, but it%26#39;s about 4 kilometers.

In the city you should not miss a trip to the fortress. Great views from both north and south battlements. If you%26#39;re going to visit a lot of the sights you would be advised to buy the Salzburg Card which gives free entrance to all the major sights and can save you loads of money. You could combine a visit to Hellbrunn with a trip to the Untersberg mountain if the weather is clear. The same bus (No. 25) takes you beyond Hellbrunn to St Leonhard where it stops at the Untersberg cable car station. The views from the top of the mountain are fabulous. You need warm clothing and good shoes up there.

I forgot to mention that at Hellbrunn, in the grounds, is the Salzburg zoo; an ancient stone theatre (first performance in 17th century) and an Italian garden with trick fountains (you have to pay to take the tour of that but it%26#39;s interesting).

yeah--2 days should be enough, although I%26#39;d make it three if you want to see hellbrunn castle %26amp; I also reccommend making a trip to Hitler%26#39;s tea house, the Eagle%26#39;s nest. Amazing views from up there. If you decide to do a sound of music tour (they are actually a blast...I know it sounds cheesy but even my %26quot;manly%26quot; boyfriend enjoyed it!) you should definately choose a bike tour NOT a bus tour. In southern Germany and austria the ONLY way to see a city is by bike. so much better than a bus!

I have been there a couple of times. I would say that if you go there and do not plan to take part in the musical events 2-3 days will be enough. The Arsenal is a must. That will give an idea of how European war was fought in the medevial times. The tourist information was good. Lok out for parking restriuctions in the central town! do bring good shoes. A lot of step streets. I would recpment some tour od the SKAMMERGUT to the east of the town. ice if the weather is good. Happy visit!
