Hello!
I plan on traveling from Vienna to Salzburg, but am having difficulty finding a cheap way of doing this!
Does anyone have any advice on the cheapest way to make this journey aside from hitch-hiking.
According to the OBB website this trip will cost over 100 Euros for 2 people, which is more than I would like to spend.
Thanks!!

There is not really an alternative to the (fast, comfortable, safe and easy to use) train.
Cost for 2 adults is € 79,40, oneway.
Also bear in mind, that Vienna-Salzburg is about the same distance as Toronto-Ottawa. A regular ticket Toronto-Ottawa for 2 adults is CAD 252 or € 155, compared to this the austrian train is quite cheap.
The only alternative is taking regional trains (S,R,REX,EZ,ER). This will take at least 5-6 hours and require at least 2 changes. Then you can use the Einfach-Raus-Ticket which is € 28 for 2-5 adults, valid Mon-Fri after 9 am, Sat/Sun all day long.
You can find trains where the Einfach-Raus-Ticket is valid in the route-planner:
http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/en
In the %26quot;Products%26quot; section, choose: %26quot;Einfach-Raus-Ticket%26quot;.

You could also buy a (highly discounted) ticket to Munich and leave the train in Salzburg. Tickets start at 29€ and are subject to availability and certain restrictions. Domestically, Austrian Railways ÖBB does not (is not allowed to?) offer discounted tickets with exception of tickets for ÖBB-Vorteilscard (=discount card granting 50%) holders.
