Hi need to know if any one has rented a car and driven in March to Lech from Zurich. Are the roads very treacherous? Should we just take the train? Is it possible to rent a car in Lech? Any info would help!

I would take the train or perhaps use the transfer service Arlberg Express. Much less stress- a chance to view the scenery . Driving not much fun when you are%26quot; Jet Lagged%26quot;too.
Zurich airport has a train station in its lower level- a short journey into Zurich - then onward to the nearest stop to Lech which is langen - then taxi or bus to Lech .
The Arlberg express has various forms of service - look to their website
www.arlbergexpress.com
Driving - the journey is about 200 kilometers - the greatest portion of the drive is on major highways- without a snow storm - very easy at least to just beyond austrian border.
Note - winter tires mandatory on autos in austria - Highway use tax sticker ( vignette too on major roads.
This winter has seen much snow in many areas of Austria. This area has a good amount. 6-9 feet
From the swiss- austrian border near Feldkirch onward to Langen, traffic can be very bad on weekends - traffic especially bad ,especially on Saturdays the major guest transfer day.
From Langen to Lech can be a very interesting drive perhaps 30 minutes but through many avalanche tunnels and curves some steep parts also. You must be careful as tunnel areas often snow - free only to leave them and suddenly you are in snow again.
This can be icy and snow covered- note this roadway can also be prone to closing due to snow.
I have driven this road way without problems most times- 2 times when chains were needed - one time enough bad weather that I parked my auto in Langen and took a taxi.
An auto does not offer much in lech. All is within walking distance - frequent bus service to Zurs and St. Anton too. Many taxis too.
Use the following site for much info
www.lech-zuers.at
it also provides info for websites for trains etc.
Enjoy the great skiing !

I agree with vertical, train is the way to go. Besides, a car is of little use in Lech.

If possible, especially with heavy luggage, use one of the direct trains from Zurich HB (main station) to Innsbruck; these depart at 0940hr, 1340hr and 1740hr and all stop at Langen Am Arlberg (for Lech). Train service between Zurich Airport and Zurich HB is very frequent and takes 15 minutes or a bit less. A useful tip is to board one of the mainline services at the airport which will arrive at one of the street level platforms at Zurich HB as opposed to the S-Bahn services - in this way you%26#39;ll have an easy change to the Austrian train in Zurich. The border crossing point for Zurich / Innsbruck trains is Buchs SG and customs checks take place on the train.
The alternative route from Zurich airport via St Gallen with border crossing at St Margrethen often only requires 1 change of trains (at Bregenz) but is slower than the Buchs SG route as the wait between trains at Bregenz tends to be quite long.
Additional indirect trains run on both routes requiring 3 or 4 changes but it%26#39;s easier to await the next direct Zurich / Innsbruck service if carrying luggage.
Langen Am Arlberg is a small station and buses to Lech run regularly departing right outside the station; they are also cheap.
