I will be travelling from Venice to Vienna in early April and have searched a number of websites but cannot find a decent airfare. Do any low fare airlines operate on this route? Thanks

Hi Steve, i am asking myself the same question.
I%26#39;m going to travel on may.
Please if you find a good airfare, let everybody knows!!

Fly from Venice Marco Polo (VCE) to Vienna (VIE) with airberlin (airberlin.com)
Fly from Venice Marco Polo (VCE) to Vienna (VIE) with Brussels Airlines (brusselsairlines.com)
Try these two airlines. I flew with Sky Europe when I did it, but they are having problems at the moment. Plus I am not sure if they still offer that flight.

AirBerlin does not fly from Venice to Vienna. You would have to change anywhere in Germany boosting the total travel time. If taking Brussels Airlines you would need to change planes in Brussel which is far away from the Venice-Vienna line. The only option is to fly SkyEurope from Treviso (TRF), but as already mentioned, they struggle with financial problems.

Skyeurope only fly Venice (actually Treviso) - Prague now

Good to know that SkyEurope has discontinued their flights from Vienna to Venice. Well, then you should consider taking the train. In Europe many airlines still pursue the %26quot;you must also purchase the return flight%26quot; policy, therefore it could be hard finding a decent airfare.

The only airline from Venice to Vienna is Austrian Airlines.
Most of the time it is cheaper to book a return flight instead of oneway.
There%26#39;s only one direct daytime train from Venice to Vienna left, travel time 7:47 hours.
As the italian railways Trenitalia have huge financial problems they isolated their country more or less by cancelling many international trains (poor!).
Austrian railways installed a replacement service by a very comfortable coach (InterCityBus) that takes you from Venice Piazzale Roma (next to the railway station, allmost all water busses go there) to Villach where connection to austrian trains to Vienna is available.
The ICB has 1st and 2nd class and runs on the motorway. Views are better from 2nd class as it%26#39;s on the upper deck. The bus has a toilet.
Another possibility is travelling by night train (serviced by austrian railways, so quite comfortable). Travel time is longer, so you get enough sleep.
The night train has regular coaches 2nd class, couchettes (compartments with 4 or 6 couches, you can%26#39;t book an entire compartment except you are 4 or 6 passengers) or sleeper (the most comfortable, with wash basin in the compartment) with 1,2 or 3 beds.
Fares for 2nd class start from € 29 on.

Oops, sorry Brussels Airlines fly from Prague to Venice, not Vienna to Venice. (you don%26#39;t have to be in Belgium to catch Brussels Air, but I think Easy Jet and/or Ryanair may go from Prague to Venice.
Do you have time to take a 4 hour train ride to Prague, hang out there for a day and then fly out the next day from Prague?
If you do have time, you should go to Prague it is amazingly beautiful there.

@Buffalo66
Well, as Brussels Airlines is a Belgian carrier you can assume that you have to transfer at one of their hubs there. Although it is basically allowed to fly between all EU cities, only a few airlines do it. I just checked the website of Brussels Airlines and found out that if you intend to fly from Venice to Prague you must transfer at BRU.

Thank you very much for the information. I think I willtake the bus/train as you suggest. I have tried going on to the Austrian Railways website but don%26#39;t seem to be able to book online. I don%26#39;t speak German. Do you know how I can book online?

As your journey originates in Italy it is necessary or better to book the tickets on the website of the Italian Railway Operator. I don%26#39;t have the link to their website right now, but a google search using %26#39;Trenitalia%26#39; should quickly bring the correct result. Although trains between Italy and Austria mandate a seat reservation, I would not start rushing. I would probably purchase the ticket at the station on the day of departure or a few days prior to the intended departure at any station in Italy.
