JFK to Vienna on Austrian Airlines-any feedback?

Hi everybody;

going to Vienna for first week of May, flying over on Austrian Airlines (economy, alas) to and from. Has anyone flown with them fairly recently, and was the experience enjoyable, food/service good and efficient, along with entertainment?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Austrian Airlines is basically a reliable and comfortable carrier I preferably fly with. Unfortunately they had to sell their newer Airbus A330 and A340 fleet, which were newer than most of the Boeing 767 they operate today. Food is above average in my opinion (mainly out of Vienna), while onboard entertainment (personal TV in seatback) could be enhanced. But if you compare to Lufthansa, which refused to incorporate PTVs for many years, Austrian Airlines does not need to hide. If you are interested in comments/travel experience you could visit www.airlinequality.com, where you will find respective assessments.

Thank you for all your info-and that%26#39;s reassuring. I assumed they were a decent carrier, and we%26#39;re definitely looking forward to our trip to Vienna (and trying to smooth any kinks or crimps). And we%26#39;re there from May 1-May 8, so the weather should be perfect: not to hot or too cold, and hopefully nice in the shoulder-season when the genuine touring season starts...

Austrian Airlines is in my opinion above average. Staff is very friendly, food above average (especially compared to Lufthansa) and it all has a very austrian touch (just listen to the music which is played on boarding/after landing).

Also personal tv/audio is available, not the oldstylish and often not working overhead TVs like Lufthansa offers.

Safety is not an issue with all european airlines.

Ah, very good news! We bought a package where we wanted a nonstop flight, and we were on United, but the flight is really handled by Austrian Airlines, so we were surprised. Nice to hear that it%26#39;s a good airline to fly!

I took a flight out of JFK to Vienna last April.

I was pretty disappointed with Austria Airways.

The airline was completely full. To the point where I couldn%26#39;t really move forwards or backwards. I%26#39;m a tall guy so I try stretch out my legs whenever I can. I could only do this for short intervals in the aisle when everyone was asleep. The flight attendants were fine. No one was super attentive but that may have been because of the flight size.

The food was excellent. It was much better than what I%26#39;ve had on American flights. The plane wasn%26#39;t exactly spotless. It was clean enough. The colors are pretty jarring the bright red and the ugly teal. I have no idea who designed their color scheme but I hope they weren%26#39;t paid for their services.

I took another flight thru Austria to Venice and it was night and day. The flight was only a couple of hours but the flight attendants were alert and

friendly. The airplane was clean and comfortable.

And they even offered English language newspapers for the short flight!

It is not the worst transatlantic flight I%26#39;ve ever been on. That was a packed Continental flight to Dublin (In which the a woman behind me was sick on herself.) But it was up there.

Oh and the Vienna airport is wonderful. There is a little coffee shop where you can get a small shot of Amaretto in your espresso. Delicious!

My husband and I flew Austian Airlines (Business Class)a few months ago - JFK to Vienna. A truly wonderful airline! The food service and customer service was fabulous! Our flight from JFK actually arrived over half an hour early in Vienna and flight back to JFK was early arrival too! I hope you enjoy your flight and absolutely beautiful Vienna! We are still talking about our experience visiting this beautiful country!
