Vienna Airport to Hotel? First timer!

Hello,

Which is the best way to get to Hotel Imperial from Vienna Airport in the morning? Does any public transport drop us at the hotel like train or bus? Or taxi is best %26amp; economic?? Please help!

Also, what is the currency dealt in Vienna? Euro right?

Thanks!

Hi Priya,

if you can afford a stay in the Imperial, I think you should consider a Taxi, especially after a long flight.

Plenty of taxis are waiting in front of the arrivals hall.

You can also consider a shuttle service, Vienna Airport%26#39;s website has more info on that:

viennaairport.com/jart/prj3/via/website.jart…

If you consider public transport:

A prebooked taxi will cost you about €29-30.

The easiest (and cheapest) journey by public transport is to get the suburban train S8 (note that this differs from the private CAT train) from the airport station (well signposted) to the stop %26quot;Rennweg%26quot;. Alight there and catch tram (streetcar) #71 in the direction %26quot;Schubertring%26quot; (on the same side of Rennweg as the station) alighting after 3 stops at Schwarzenbergplatz. From there it%26#39;s a couple of minutes walk to the hotel.

You need to buy a €1.70 ticket (yes, it is the Euro!) to get you to the city boundary and either a second €1.70 ticket to cover your journey within the city boundary or a 24 or 72 hour pass to cover all journeys in the city within that period. All tickets can be purchased from machines at the airport station.

If you want super easy but cheaper than a full cab fare, just take the nonstop CAT train from the airport to downtown. Once downtown, get out and get a cab the rest of the way to your hotel. If you are new to the city, and you will have your bags, the last thing you may want to do is transferring around on the metro. There are employees at the CAT ticket booths that will help you buy your ticket.

|||

Key point, when you exit the train and go into the station, do not go through the doors on the right as they do not go to the taxi stands. Instead, go to your left and exit to the back of the station where you will find a line of cabs. I didn%26#39;t know this and stood on the street like the idiot that I am for about 15 minutes before I walked behind the station and saw the taxis.

The CAT terminates at the Wien Mitte station which is also served by the S8 after the Rennweg stop I mentioned above. Both trains leave from the Airport Station; the S8 takes 10 minutes longer than the CAT, but costs €3.40 in total as opposed to the CAT%26#39;s price of €9.00 if tickets are bought at the airport. A premium of €5.60 per person to save ten minutes just doesn%26#39;t seem good value to me! If you get off at Rennweg it%26#39;s four minutes less and if you don%26#39;t want to take a streetcar you could get a taxi as quickly from there for no more than the cost of a taxi from Wien Mitte!

Thankyou all for your responses!

Looks like for 29Euros, a taxi straight to the hotel might be a better option, esp with a toddler and 2 Adults,!

So once I%26#39;m ready to leave the airport, where can I find a taxi?

Will there be prepaid flat rate taxi or a line of taxis on meter, waiting outside the airport?

You must reserve in advance a dedicated taxi transfer to have the good rate.

Regular taxis found just outside of the Arrivals Hall charge much more.

Look to the following services

www.airportdriver.at

www.ck-airportsevice.at

Both are good companies - they will greet you in the Arrivals Hall - will hold the usual small sign with your name just as you enter the Arrivals Hall after baggage claim- assist with your luggage to the auto parked nearby and then quickly to your hotel door.

No trouble or stress.

This ,while more costly than public transport is much easier especially after a long flight, having amounts of luggage and perhaps jet lag too.

If you do not already have euro before arrival- you can find ATMs to exchange in the airport arrivals area.
