What is the surrounding at Wien Westbahnhof train station?

Hello,

We are arriving at Wien Westbahnhof train station and would be taking another TRAIN EC 965 to Budapest.

Please advise if there are any attractions within close walking distance of less than 1 km to the station?

Or nice shops and tasty local places to eat?

Or are we better off taking the next available train to Budapest.

Thanks

Cafe Westend is a nice traditional viennese coffe house just by the station, on Mariahilferstrasse 128.

Mariahilferstrasse is also one of Viennas main shopping streets, with the usual H%26amp;M, C%26amp;A, Benetton etc.

Depending on the time of day, Mariahilferstrasse is the best bet. Wander in a different direction from WestBhf, and you will only see middle class residential. There is also a reasonably nice, but crowded, small grocery in the train station where you could stock up with snacks and/or sandwiches for your outbound journey.

Please note that the Westbahnhof is now undergoing major renovations and improvements- some inconvenience and detours for certain- you may need some extra time for your transfer.

If you wish to spend some time in Vienna- Palace Schönbrunn is a very short ride from the train station using streetcar # 58 found just outside of the station.

Not just the palace tour- a restaurant and gerdens in the complex also.
