Villach to Dobratsch by public transport

Hi,

Please advise how we can go up to Dobratsch from Villach city via public transport?

Would Dobratsch summit still be covered with snow in end-Msy 09?

Also, how far and tedious is the hike up to summit as I would presume public transport takes us up to only a certain point.

Thanks

The Dobratsch Area is a Nature Park, hence you cannot expect public buses to drive everywhere in the park. There is only one (scenice) road, the Villacher Alpine Road, which comes relatively close to the peak. You would need to rent a car.

But you could also tour another area, the Reißeck Mountain, which is accessbile from Mitterberg (ÖBB Railway Station: Kolbnitz). A cable car runs from the valley up to the peak giving you great impressions of the mountainous landscape.

Hi both,

Actually we are not going there to ski or any vigious acitivities.

We had wanted to head for Franz-Josef-Hohe but it seems that public transport from Zell am see and Lienz do not operate in May 09.

Then we thought of going to Heiligenblut from Lienz and staying there. From heiligenblut we would then take the public bus to Franz-J-H which I think are bus services in May 09.

So that brings us to find possible alternatives to F-J-H which brings us to enquire about Dobratsch!

Which alpine has nice views of snow capped mountains and yet accessible in May 09 via public transport?

thanks
